If you listen to the radio even for a few hours a week, you have no doubt heard of the folk rock band The Lumineers, best known for their hit “Ho Hey.” The band is catchy and has become extremely popular in just a few months. You may not have heard of the other Lumineers – the fast and easy dental procedure that can give you the perfect smile you’ve always dreamed of with no pain or drilling. Lumineers are similar to veneers but are a slightly less involved procedure. In fact, when more people find out about the Lumineers offered at their local dental office in New York, the procedure may become as popular as the identically named band.
Lumineers and traditional veneers are quite similar. Using either technology, a dental office in New York can correct stained, chipped, cracked, crooked, or gapped teeth by applying a thin piece to the front of the teeth. Just like other porcelain veneers, Lumineers are made from porcelain; however, Lumineers are stronger than traditional veneers and therefore can be made in thinner shapes. Usually, traditional veneers are about half a millimeter thick while Lumineers can be less than a third of a millimeter thick. When a patient gets traditional veneers, the dentist will remove about one millimeter of enamel from the tooth. He will then take a mold of the patient’s teeth and send the mold off to a lab which will create custom veneers to match the shape and color of the patient’s teeth. This usually takes about two weeks. When the veneers come in to your dental office in New York, the dentist will administer anesthetic and clean, polish, and etch the patient’s teeth, which better enables the veneers to bond to the surface of the tooth. He will then apply the veneer to the tooth using a special dental cement. To secure the bond between the tooth and the veneer, he will shine a strong light on the tooth, which hardens the cement.
The procedure for Lumineers is similar but less complicated. When you make your initial visit to your dental office in New York, your dentist will not shave down any of the enamel. He will make molds of your teeth as they are before sending the molds to the lab. When the veneers come in, your dentist will attach them to your existing enamel using the curing cement. There will be no shots or drilling, making for a far more comfortable experience.
As Lumineers become more popular, they will soon be found in every dental office in New York. For now, however, they are only offered in select offices. Talk to your dentist to find out if he offers Lumineers and if you are a good candidate for this effective and painless new technology.
