In today’s world, technology makes its way in our everyday lives. Various breakthroughs are being celebrated and improved because of technology –including creating, storing and working with music. Thus here comes the creation of another musical breakthrough called MIDI.
Musical Instrument Digital Interference or MIDI enables digital musical instruments, computers and other related devices to connect and communicate with one another. It transposes the tunes into melodic notes that each device could recognize and has a set of common commands that allows compatibility among the interconnected devices.
Yamaha, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of musical instruments, launched a portable keyboard line. This whole range of portable Yamaha keyboard is embedded with digital interface. It could recognize MIDI sounds and could be connected to other related devices. Portable Yamaha keyboards come with the USB-MIDI, a software driver that transfers MIDI data back and forth between PC software and the Yamaha device.
Various drivers are developed by Yamaha depending on the specifications of one’s computer. There is a USB-MIDI Driver intended for Windows and Mac Operating Systems.
Starting off is a separate USB-MIDI Driver for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. The USB-MIDI Driver for 32-bit Windows has a total file size of 7,590KB and 7,607KB for 64-bit Windows. Both are compatible with the following platforms: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows 2000, Windows Vista and Windows XP Professional Home Edition. These USB-MIDI Drivers requires only a minimum of 10MB hard disk space.
Yamaha also developed a wide range of USB-MIDI Drivers for Macintosh users and different versions of drivers for different Operating System types. The first one is the USB-MIDI Driver version 1.0.7 which was updated last 2005 and is compatible with Macintosh OS 8.6 to 9.2.2. It has a built-in USB interface. Its total file size is 6,207KB and requires 2MB disk space.
An upgraded version developed in 2009 is called the USB-MIDI Driver version 1.2. It is designed to be compatible with Mac OS Version 10.2.8 to 10.5.x. This type of Mac computer has a USB port with a Power Mac G3 or higher and it requires a hard disk space of 2MB or more.
In 2012, Yamaha developed a USB-MIDI Driver for Mac OS X (10.4.11). This is the 1.3.1 version compatible to Macintosh computer that has a USB port with a Power Mac G3 or higher. Requiring only a minimum disk space of 2MB or more, its total file size is 2,888KB. For Mac OS X (10.5.x to 10.87x), the compatible USB-MIDI Driver will be the version 1.3.2. It has a total file size of 2,880KB and has a required minimum hard disk space of 2MB.
