Pazhaya Sreekanteswaram Temple- this is a temple dedicated to the god of destruction; lord Shiva. This temple is considered to be one of the holiest temples in Kerala due to a legend that is associated with it. Legend has it that a sweeper of the temple used to rest here under the shade of the trees. One day when the sweeper was done with her rest she picked up her broom and pot called Kalayakkudam; however the pot refused to budge from the place she had kept it. She then tried to break the pot by hitting it with a stone and to her surprise the pot started to bleed. It is said that lord Shiva had given her “Darshan” in the form of a lingam. Later a temple was erected here and today is known as the Sreekanteswaram temple.


Pazhavangadi Maha Ganapathi Temple- this is a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the Lord of beginnings. This elaborate temple has a small idol of him with his right leg in a folded posture and is considered o be one of the main temples in Thiruvananthapuram. The temple is elaborately carved and also to see and worship here are the 32 forms of lord Ganesha.
