Fast rising Afro pop R&B artiste, Yemi Alade, is gradually becoming one of the most sought after female artistes in the entertainment industry. The Yoruba-Ibo girl, as she is usually called has a new single, ‘Ghen Ghen Love, ’ which is currently gathering momentum in the industry. In this interview with SEYI SOKOYA, she shares her experience in the industry, fashion preferences and what she is doing to keep her curves. Excerpts: I initially isabel marant sneakers started as a Pop ‘R n B’ artiste but I have raised my game to become an Afro Pop ‘R n B’ artiste. Music for me hasn’t exactly always been my first love until when i won Peak Talent Show in 2009, that is when it became music or nothing for me. Other than that, I have always been representing my primary and secondary schools in all musical activities and competitions. After secondary school, I joined a musical group of four girls, my name was Ginger then. Then, I dropped my debut single and video, Fi Mi Sile featuring elDee and now I have Ghen Ghen Love and I am dropping a few more soon. It is a learning process which happens day-by-day. God has been so good to me and the people have been receptive and my fans base just keeps growing, I can only be thankful. I am fully into music. It is Yemi Alade’s musical career. I graduated last year from University of Lagos and during that period, I struggled to give my all to music while in school. But now, that i am done with school, I have enough time to focus on my music, but that doesn’t mean by the side, I’m not trying to put one or two things together but right now, it is hundred per cent music. Growing up. My dad is a retired Commissioner of Police and my mum is a business woman. They are both from Abia and Ondo states respectively. That’s why they call me that Yoruba-Ibo girl. Growing up, being the fifth child of seven children, I must say my parents didn’t really allow me to go for birthday parties. We were always locked inside. It was a routine process, from isabel marant school. Our lesson teacher is already waiting and after that, dinner and then to your bed. It is book or nothing while growing up.
