Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala, is one of the leading tourist destinations in India. The lowland is a narrow stretch that covers shorelines, rivers and deltas.  The largest freshwater lake in the district, namely; the Vellayani Lake, lies in the suburbs of the city.

Highlands constitute the eastern suburbs of the city. The highest point in the Thiruvananthapuram district is the renowned Agasthyarkoodam which rises 1869 m above sea level. Ponmudi and Mukkunimala are some of the well-known hill-resorts near the city.

Trivandrum city enjoys a favourable and moderate climate that borders between a tropical savanna and a tropical monsoon climate. The mean maximum temperature of the district is 34 °C and the mean minimum temperature is 21 °C.  The humidity is extremely high and  could shoot up to around 90% during the monsoon season. As Thiruvananthapuram is the first city that lies along the path of the south-west monsoons, it gets its first showers in early June. The city gets heavy rainfall from the receding north-east monsoons, particularly during October. While December, January and February are the coldest months, March, April and May are the hottest. The winter temperature falls to about 15 °C and highest temperature recorded is 37 °C.

You can visit Trivandrum at any time of the year. However, the only discomfort that you might encounter is the humidity. And, if you wish to avoid the monsoon, then the months of September to May are the best.
