Stomp was actually introduced in 1991, in Brighton, UK, as a result of a full decade collaboration of its creators Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas. These two first began collaborations before 10 years, when they formed Pookiesnackenburger, a street band and Cliff Hanger in the theater in 1981. The group had become reasonably famous for their exceptional percussion-based performances in 1986, and Stomp was asked to perform for HBO special “Mondo Beyondo” by Bette Midler.
Cresswell directed and staged "Beat the Clyde" involving floating a drum orchestra in center of Glasgow. One of the largest outdoor events, the "Heineken Hove Lagoon Show", has involved a 120 piece drum orchestra in 1987-90. In 1991, Stomp played their first show at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London. The original seven-member troupe was quick to embark on winning awards for their performance, which promptly shot them into notoriety across Great Britain.
