The current economic climate means that people are increasingly selling up, moving on and packing up within the catering business.

Whilst the business has always dealt in all kinds ofkitchen equipment, they are now seeing an unprecedented demand for their 2nd hand catering equipment.

The company, established since 1989, are being offered a huge amount of used catering equipment on a virtually daily basis, but they point out that not everything is worth buying.

Whilst some customers may see secondhand catering equipment as an inferior product when pitted against something new, they stress that this is not always the case.

They say that they only deal in known quality and reliable brands that they know and trust; brands whose second hand equipment can outperform even new equipment from inferior brands.

M&M Catering Equipment say that this is because cheap imported goods have flooded the market.

They stress that these items are generally of poor quality and have not been constructed to the highest possible standard.

They also say that they pride themselves on only dealing with quality 2nd hand catering equipment.

Whilst plenty of equipment is offered, they will only deal with and sell on quality refurbished catering equipment that can be renovated to the highest possible level.

Managing Director Steven Morris explains; “We get lots of people here who come in for second hand equipment. All they ask for is ‘second hand, ‘second hand’, ‘second hand’ because they assume it’s a bargain.”

“I often have to explain that secondhand catering equipment can often be more expensive than new equipment. Whilst it does sound odd that imported new equipment can be cheaper than 2nd hand catering equipment, it actually makes sense because we only deal with companies who build their products to last, unlike the bargain basement cheap imported goods”

“Dealing with the best quality refurbished catering equipment is the ideal situation for all involved; the customer will be getting a huge discount from the new price and we don’t want to be going back out to fix things a few months down the line.”

“The thing is, what I always have done is give people the facts about what they’re buying. That’s all there is to it. The more open we all are, the easier it is to do business”
