One of the main causes for 'Information Store' corruption is improper shutdown of Microsoft Exchange Server. Unexpected Server shutdown is mostly due to power failure and human errors. In case of Information Store corruption, you receive an error message when you restart the Information Store service. This error message does not allow you to access data saved in the Information Store. In such situations, an advanced backup acts as a boon and allows the user to access data saved in the Information Store. However, if the user has not created any backup or backup is deficient, then the user needs to repair corrupted Information Store. To do so, a user needs to opt for an advanced third-party exchange server recovery application.

Consider a practical scenario wherein your Information Store gets corrupted due to improper shutdown of MS Exchange Server. So, when you try to access the database using eseutil/mh command, the command reports that the database is in inconsistent state. However, when you try to repair the corrupted database using eseutil/r command, you receive the below decimal error message:

The data saved in the database becomes inaccessible after the above error message flashes on your screen.

The root cause for the occurrence of above error message is severe corruption in Information Store due to unexpected server shutdown.

To get rid of the above error message and to access the data saved in the Information Store, you need to follow the below guidelines:

  • Restore the Information Store from a previous online backup.

  • In case of absence of backup, repair the database using below steps:

  1. Click on 'Start' option and select 'Run'.

  2. In the Open box type 'cmd', and then click OK.

  3. Next, type the underneath commands and press Enter after every command:

cd c:\exchsrvr\mdbdata\

eseutil /r /ispriv

eseutil /r /ispub

  1. If the above commands fail to repair, then type these commands:

eseutil /d priv.edb

eseutil /d pub.edb

  1. After the above commands repair the database, run an online defragmentation, and again type:

isinteg -pri -fix -test alltests

isinteg -pub -fix -test alltests

  • In case the above steps fail to repair the database and the error message persists, then you will need to opt for a commercial exchange server recovery software. An Exchange Repair tool repairs Information Store by using advanced repairing methods.

Stellar Phoenix Mailbox Exchange Recovery is a reliable exchange recovery tool that systematically repairs all logically corrupted Exchange Server 5.5, 2000, 2003, and 2007 databases. The recovered mailboxes are saved in a PST file format. It supports Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2003, and 2000.
