For how long is EHIC valid for?
Once issued an EHIC is valid for up to five years. Every time you visit Europe, make sure you check your card for its validity. You may renew your EHIC for up to 6 months before its expiry date.

- EHIC is not an alternative to your travel insurance.
- EHIC covers only state-provided emergency treatment.
- Though most of the accidents are covered under EHIC, still you are not allowed to specifically go to Europe to use the card, so as to receive any medical treatment.
