in association with the Cannes Short Film Corner and partner YouTube, welcomes you to this NFB competition, now in its fifth year.

 

Here are four short films that gives out some important messages about friendship, greediness, curiosity, and ill-fate.

A voodoo doll must find the courage to save his friends from being pinned to death.

Joaquin Baldwin is an Annie Award nominee director and animator from Paraguay. Living in Los Angeles, he is now finishing his MFA in animation at UCLA. He has received over 50 international awards for his animated films Sebastian's Voodoo and Papiroflexia, and also several grants including the Jack Kent Cooke full Graduate Scholarship in 2006.

A sleep deprived office worker finds a Black Hole whilst photocopying late one night Suddenly the possibilities seem endless. Will greed get the better of him?

Phil & Olly aka Diamond Dogs met in the last murky years of the 20th Century at one of Wimbledon School of Arts now legendary parties. They teamed up in 2003 and began shooting no budget promos whilst busting their balls as Art Directors to pay their bills. Phil & Olly continue their careers as editor & art director respectively to fund their directing projects in a world of ever shrinking budgets. 
The boys are currently in production on music videos for Will and the People and The Enemy and in pre-production on a 30 second Miller Light commercial. They are also penned to shoot a 4 minute short for Future Shorts in conjunction with Samsung called Spontaneously Capture your life and in pre-production with The UK Film Council in association with Virgin Media Shorts on a short film project called The Archaeologist.

A tiny robot is given the gift of life with only one limitation, the length of his power cable. When a curious bird appears at the workshop window, the robot feels a lust to live outside of his reach that may be his demise.

Originally from the island of Tasmania, Luke Randall is a director/animator currently based in Melbourne, Australia. Luke has been fortunate enough to work on CG TV series, video game cinematic and animated feature films over the past couple of years and has received several awards for his work.

A Roald Dahl-like fable about an ill fated professional pianist who comes down with a unique affliction: he is losing the use of his fingers. His life spirals downward as, one by one, his digits stop functioning.

Jordan Canning is a filmmaker living and working in St. Johns. Over the last four years she has directed eight short films and a number of music videos. In 2006 she was chosen for the Corus Young Filmmakers Initiative for her film, Here on In. Next she scaled back to create The House Series, a trilogy of shorts produced with no budget and each filmed in a different room of her home. Last year, Bedroom screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and was awarded Best Atlantic Short at the Atlantic Film Festival. Her most recent short, Countdown, is an NSI Drama Prize.
