Bradley and Associates news defraud study, more data breaches lead to greater risks of fraud

We have heard about so many great breach of data in recent years, it is difficult to establish  when - or even whether - to respond. LivingSocial Off to Sony to the credit card processor Global Payments, the records of tens of millions of people have been exposed.


More than 5% of all adults in the USA are affected by  fraud  data in 2012, according to a recent study by Javelin Strategy & Research. The  study  also found that 23% of victims of data breaches also become victims of fraud. And data theft increase, javelin said, to 48% in 2012 from 2011.


Analysis of a single, albeit huge data breach in South Carolina (3.6 million people were exposed Social Security numbers), javelin found the fraud totaled $ 5.2 billion and an average of $ 776 in out-of-pocket cost of each fraud victim.

Javelin that companies can do to protect consumers more.


"Current standards of protection are often insufficient to prevent a data breach event - and, worse, they are sometimes forgotten," said Al Pascual, analyst at javelin.


"Organizations can increase consumer confidence and loyalty by introducing better protection against the event of a data breach and by restricting criminals' ability to stolen data deceive consumers."
