If you have recently been ticketed the best thing you could do is take a defensive driving course to have the ticket dismissed. By having the ticket dismissed it will have no effect on your auto insurancepremium. If you are not able to get the ticked dismissed it will have an effect on your policy, but for how long. Most insurance companies go by three or five years when it comes to the amount of time a ticket, accident, or claim will have an effect on your auto insurance pricing. Some of the more picky companies like Travelers, The Hartford, and Safeco tickets and accidents stay on your policy for five years. Other companies like Foremost and Kemper will only rate tickets and accidents from the past three years. Progressive and a few other companies use a combination of three and five years. With Progressive a ticket will only stick with you three years but and accident will be around for five. When a violation (ticket or accident) hits its three or five year mark it will not fall off immediately. Most Insurance companies will not review your violations until your policy is up for renewal. So renewal is when you will see old violations fall off and new ones show up. Progressive has what is called a midterm review so you do not have to wait until renewal.
