Hajj and Umrah are holy sojourns that Muslims around the world look forward to the most. It is one of those journeys that every Muslim must be cautious in planning their trip so that they can rejoice every moment of it. However, every year thousands of Hajjis return home with disappointment and regret in their accommodation, food and various arrangements. So before you select a hajj & Umrah agency, it is vital that you ask them all the right questions and examine them closely. Here is a list of the foremost queries and decisive factors when choosing a Hajj & Umrah agency:

  • Inquire about the name, standard and location of your hotel in both cities of Makkah and Madinah. All three factors are essential to figure out whether it is convenient for you to stay there or not.

  • Occasionally, agencies will let you know half-truths only, for example they will inform you of the hotel name but not it's standard or distance from the Mosques. You should know exactly what is the walking distance from your hotel to the Mosques in both cities.

  • You should also inquire about the agency and how long they have been in business as this will give you insight to their experience in this field. You should also ask how many times a year the agents have accompanied groups personally, so you can gauge whether they know of the areas, rules, regulations and other legal matters.

  • The agents will assign rooms for the whole group and you have to decide whether you are willing to share the room and toilet facilities with other people or if you want your own place. However, you have to make all this clear to the agent while paying because sometimes they can put more people in one room and charge you the same.

  • Mina, Muzdalifah &Arafat are cities that Hajis visit and without which Hajj is not complete. You need to inquire your agent or agency about what arrangements they have made in these places.

  • You may also want to ask them if they have made proper meal arrangements for days in Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat or whether you will have to arrange meals yourself. If you have to do it yourself, then you need to ask thee experienced agency where food is available from close by.

  • You should know that you can get yourself upgraded with additional costs, so if do ask about that option. Up-gradation details will be provided to you but you need to make the decision in the end.

  • In Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat, you have to sleep in tents because there are no constructed buildings there and are rather open spaces. You need to be sure that your agency is providing you with a tent, beds and all other amenities that will make it easy for you to sleep overnight.

  • Ask your agent for facilities for the physically disabled and ask for hotels with wheelchair access. You should also know all the facilities that are provided in the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia for disabled and handicapped.

  • Sometimes airlines make stopovers in other cities or countries and you should be well aware that the agent is providing you with free stop overs or how much you have to pay in case they do not provide it for free.

  • It is your right to know full details of your answers and if your agent is being unclear about some of your queries, you should keep asking.

  • Find out about the legalities of your Hajj and Umrah visa, and especially for 'Mehram' in case of women who are not allowed to travel to Saudia without a 'Mehram' or legal male guardian.
