NTFS is an advanced and stable file system, developed by Microsoft Corporation, to be used with its Windows operating system. It offers better security and performance for your valuable data on Windows hard drives and partitions, then FAT file system. The file system offers absolute system stability in case of improper system shutdown and system crash via its journaling feature.

Microsoft Windows enables you to easily convert a FAT 32 or FAT16 file system partition into NTFS simply using convert command. However, under some circumstances, like system crash or power outages, the conversion process can not complete successfully and the stored data can not be accessed. This behavior cause severe data loss and require Windows Recovery to be sorted out.

Before proceeding for the file system conversion from FAT32 or FAT16 to NTFS, you must keep the below things in mind:

It is not possible to undo the operation after converting your Windows partitions from FAT to NTFS. If you wish to use FAT as file system on Windows partition again, you have to format the partition that removes all the data from drive.

Some older versions of Microsoft Windows operating system are unable to read data from local NTFS file system partitions. To install an older version, you are recommended not to convert your file system to NTFS.

If the conversion process gets interrupted, you may lose your significant data from Windows hard drive and require Windows Data Recovery to work around the problem.

You can convert your file system from FAT32 or FAT16 to NTFS using the below steps:

Close all the programs.

Go to Start-> All Programs-> Accessories. Right-click the Command Prompt and click 'Run as Administrator'.

At command-prompt, type 'convert <drive_letter>: /fs:ntfs' and press Enter key.

The partition conversion process generally interrupted due to insufficient disk space on Windows hard drive, system crash, and power outages. In all such cases, the previous file system is removed from the drive and new file system can not be written due to interruption in the process.

In such situations, Windows Data Recovery Software are required to methodically scan whole hard drive and extract all lost Windows data from it. The applications are totally safe to use with read-only and non-destructive conduct. They Recover Windows data simply without demanding sound technical skills.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery software recovers lost Windows data form hard drive and other Windows-supported storage media. The software retrieves your valuable data from NTFS5, NTFS, FAT32, VFAT, FAT16, and FAT12 file system partitions of Windows 7, Vista, 2003, XP, and 2000 operating systems.
