No matter what the reason, learning ballroom dancing lessons can be really enjoyable and good for you. Begin by finding a local company that offers a class or session at a time that is convenient for you. If you are worried about going alone, take a friend or a loved one to try it out with you. Remember that there is no pressure. This is something that you are doing for fun and possibly just to try something new.
So once you have found a studio or an institution, show up a little effort early on if you want to talk to the trainer. If there are any concerns that you have, bring them up at that point. You want to start this total adventure without any type of worry of doubt. So take the time to listen to the trainer and do the best as possible you can. You may search that is something that you are really going to enjoy and maintain to pursue.
Literally speaking, in order to lead someone you first need to make a connection with that person in ballroom dancing. Without proper connection of any attempt to lead will feel unexpected and unsetting. At the same time in order to make connection with another person, you first need to be connected within yourself. So the best way to develop your inner connection is by consciously focusing on your center area.
Basically you core area that connects your entire body and provides it with a dynamic tension that adjusts to the speed and power of your movements. As you practice concentrating on your core area you will feel your inner connection enlarge.
So you can make connection within yourself before asking ballroom dancers to dance and when you touch their hands they will feel that connection and respond to it. They won’t know why, they will just know that for some reason they dance better when they dance with you. You will be aiming to connect from your core area to theirs, the hands and arms just help transmit that purpose.
A good exercise is to concentrate on your core area until you feel your arms and body connected. Now put your hands in front of you. Now with your feet side by side start transferring your weight from one leg to the other- make sure as you transfer weight that your arms and columns are connected and are part of the weight transfer.
Now try this exercise with your partner in front of you, the palms of your hands are up and your partner’s are down, connect the hands at the fingertips. Basically your arms will provide a little tension upward and when done properly she will provide a reciprocal tension downward that will maintain your fingertip connection.
Start moving from one leg to the other making sure that you are neither communicating the weight transfer nor merely moving your hands from side to side, but keeping body connected and transferring your entire body columns. As you practice the above exercise you will feel connection with your partner as you move from one leg to the other.
