The introduction of perfumes to the world happened thousands of years back. The term ‘perfume’ is derived from the Latin word ‘per fume’ which means ‘through smoke’. The initial use of perfumes comes from the burning of incense and aromatic herbs used in religious services. It was a sacred usage and not the personal aroma thing like it is today.  The discovery or the early usage of perfume can be dated back to the period from 7000 to 4000 bc. In these times the fatty oils of olive and sesame were combined with fragrant plants to create the original Neolithic ointments.

It is believed that in the times when the Egyptians were learning to write and make bricks they were already in the process of importing large quantities of myrrh. These were amongst the earliest items of commerce just like spices, gums and other fragrant plants and all of these commodities were at those times reserved for religious purposes  Another major step in the history of perfumes was the spread of Islam, which helped in expanding appreciation and knowledge of fragrance. The prominent leaders of the time in the 6th and 7th centuries are said to have loved children, women and fragrance above all else. Amongst the favorite scents of the leaders of those times was camphire (henna), However, it was the rose that became the signature perfume of the Moslem culture.

By the time we reached the 19th century, there were many changes in the fragrance world. In the Western world of fragrance, France became the leader in reestablishing the therapeutic uses of fragrance. It was kind of the power shift in the industry and till today the country has a strong hold in the perfume industry of the world.

The growth in the next couple of centuries has exceeded the expectations of the most optimists of predictors as well. Today there are over 30,000 designer perfumes on the market and the number is growing by the day. Perfumes, unlike the ancient times, are no longer the monopoly of the wealthy. There is a fragrance for every pocket and every liking.

Along with the volumes, the perfume industry has undergone several changes in technique, material and style. All of which have made the modern fragrance industry one of the most exciting and dynamic industries out there, it is an industry that still incorporates creativity, mystique and romance along with marketing to appeal to the masses. For More Detail Visit :
