Crater Lake was designed when a hugeexplosion of Mount Mazama 7700 years ago caused the mountain to collapse, leaving a steaming caldera. Rain and snow has been filling the caldera and creating Crater Lake for quite some time.Crater Lake lodgingis always open, but some of the roads and facilities are closed during the winter for current road, weather and trail information.

This is 33-mile drive encircles Crater Lake, with each mile giving very different views of the lake, border and surrounding land. Crater Lake lodging provides many trips and programs during the summer including boat and trolley tours, park ranger talks, hikes and evening software package. In the winter, rangers lead explanatory snowshoe hikes on the weekends. Here is some of the best time to visit the lake like as the weather plays a dramatic role at Crater Lake National Park. Snow generally begins to accumulate each year in October and doesn't dissolve in most places until the following June. Summer weather is more predictable, with warm, dry days, blue skies, and cool nights. August can sometimes take a different turn when the lake becomes completely obscured by clouds and fog. Visitors to the Crater Lake National Park should be prepared for any kind of weather, any time of the year.
