The All India Council for Technical Education or AICTE was established in the November of 1945, after a recommendation by the Central Advisory Board of Education or CABE. At that time, AICTE could only cover programs under Engineering and technology. But, with the growth of the country the demand for the qualified professionals in other fields also increased, such as Business Management, Architecture, Hotel Management, Pharmacy, etc. It was after few years, that the government of India decided to set up separate boards under AICTE to formulate standards and promote various streams in education.
AICTE is only a judicial body, which deals with correlated development and proper planning of the technical education system in the country. The All India Council for Technical Education affiliation is done for all engineering, MBA and Pharmacy colleges. The main reason for which AICTE approval is required for such institutes is because it focuses on transparent administration and accountability towards the society.
