AC adapters frequently fail when the wire become stressed and broken from destructive pulling and bending. If this is the problem with the AC adapter on your Compaq Presario CQ60, then you may want to replace the damaged wire and plug, but only if you are experienced working with electricity, soldering irons and electrical components. If your Laptop AC adapter is not working and you see no signs of damage in the wires or plugs, then the adapter is probably unfixable and you should consider buying a new adapter for your Compaq Laptop.
.Unplug the AC adapter from both the AC outlet and the Compaq Presario CQ61. Draw a diagram of the electrical plug and wires, noting which wire is connected to which metal tab in the plug.
.Cut the plug off of the wire. Strip about one-fourth of Compaq Presario CQ62 an inch of insulation off the end of each wire.
.Slide the plastic sleeve of the replacement plug over the wire. Attach the stripped wire to the metal tabs on the replacement plug by twisting them around the tabs, taking care to attach them according to your diagram. Solder the wires to the tabs.Compaq Presario CQ70 Slide the plastic sleeve over the plug and secure by twisting the sleeve clockwise.
.Plug the AC adapter for your C700 into an AC outlet. Test for 18.5 volts DC at the new plug with a volt-ohm meter. If no voltage exists, remove the plastic sleeve, re-solder defective solder joints and replace the plastic sleeve. Plug the AC adapter into your Compaq Presario CQ71.
