Information technology is a growing sector in this business world. It has many business streams like software development, hardware implementation, out processing services, marketing and many more. Server is the basic system to support and manage all these streams. These days, data is also growing along with the business. Even the information is stored in the server for future maintenance. These servers have the limited storage capacity and cannot maintain large amount of data. There are many other devices to store and maintain the crucial information with more efficiency.

In today’s techno world, most of the organizations are implementing storage technologies to maintain their large amount of information. All these technologies and systems are based on network connections. These external storage devices directly connect to the server and provide data access on a shared network folder within organizational connections. There are many devices, architectures and protocols to support storage technologies such as redundant array of independent disks (RAID), storage area network (SAN), network attached storage (NAS), direct attached storage (DAS), flash drives, hard disk drives (HDD), compact disks (CD), solid state drive (SSD), internet small computer system interface (iSCSI) and many more.

SAN, NAS and DAS are the architectures to provide storage space along with the network connections. These architectures provide easy information access over network connections within organizational network. These are cost effective devices to offer more efficiency and capacity. Most of the IT organizations are using these architectures to maintain and protect their valuable information. These devices operates file sharing on a server and directly connects to the server with various protocols such as fibre channel, SATA, RAID, iSCSI and many more over Ethernet connections.

Storage catching, thin provisioning and de-duplication are the main elements of storage technologies. Catching is used to minimize the disk usage to provide more space. Basically, it buffers the used data to allow the system work more effectively. It implements disks, RAM, network devices and storage arrays. Thin provisioning is one more technology in a shared environment to optimize the device usage. This technology can increase the storage capacity for large amount of information. De-duplication is also one type of technology to help the systems for the data backup. This technology can retrieve the data whenever required, in case of any disk failure. It is the process of data backup for further references. Many organizations use these technologies to enhance their efficiency and capacity.
