Caffé Normal - Coffee with Cognac
Caffé Brutal - Coffee witout Cognac
Caffé de Lux - Cognac witout Coffee

Let me start by saying I'm American, just to avoid misconceptions. For all the idiots who get all huffed up over espresso and what is real coffee and what is not. Espresso didn't even exist until after 1822, coffee however made the scene about 950 years earlier in the middle east. It was traditionally made by heating 2 parts coffee with 3 parts water and straining. So technically "Americano" is the closest out of any of the above to real coffee

None of that is real coffee.

@PocketDrummer: Breve means brief.

Even talking about coffee brings out the national bigotry in a few simple individuals.

I curious whether these are the proper terms. If you go to Starbucks, they will call the "Flat White" a "No Foam Caffe Latte" and the "Cafe Breve" a "Cafe Breve Latte". To my understanding, Caffe means coffe (in Italian) and breve simply signifies steamed half & half. In a pure sense this would probably suffice, however the term breve is also used for many other drinks, and the order taker may ask you to specify "Caffe Breve, what?"

When I order Coffee I like the "americano" and I like it black because Coffee drinkers savor the aroma and flavor by drinking their coffee pure without any sugar or milk in order to taste and enjoy the real blend of their coffee.
where's the coffee (guest)
2/5/2010 9:28:03 PM
Has no one noticed that no matter what you order you only get the smallest amount of expresso. You have to pay more to get an extra shot. Why not give me a cup that has half expresso? This is starbuck's in the "pay more for less" mode. I make my own. Half steamed milk and half expresso. Now that's a cappucino!!

:Tim Horton: You can find Espresso in Europe, it's not just an American thing. They have wonderful coffee in Europe. Starbucks on the other hand does suck and has disgusting coffee. I used to be a barista at a fair trade coffee joint. The "pickiness" of a-holes about their coffee was just unbearable!

In Canada we hate your fancy Star Bucks pseudo-coffee.

There's two kinds of coffee that most people drink here. All other phrases are almost useless. They are: "Double Double" and "Black".

Nowhere in Canada (except for the American owned Star Bucks, where the complete and utter douchbags get coffee) can you buy an "espresso" and not feel like a complete and utter douchbag.

I guess I'm the only one who noticed the bad grammar in the title question. It should read "Which coffee would you like to have?"

I would say tea is indeed more civilized but I hate it when there is too much cardamom in my spiced chai. Every cafe I've ever been to overloads the spices in chai, they don't do it right, which is why I just make it myself. Chai should have two cardamom, a couple cloves, sonf, and about an inch of cinnamon stick. Cafes put like 309347891x that many.
Just sayin' tea is just as picky. Also chai means tea so your chai tea lattes sound stupid. You're saying "tea tea milk."

what a bunch of crying weiners. tea is civilized? have you seen the teeth of the british? i thought a civilized society would have dentists...

also, as someone else said, the italian pronouciations are crap. panna is pahn-nah. italians pronounce every letter in a word, including double letters. don't even get me started with the whole "let's pronounce the first A in macchiato as an O" thing...
dR dMo (guest)

maybe if you drank tea you would all be a bit more civilised

@ People above arguing over tiny details about drinks:
This is why I no longer work in a cafe. People take their coffee far too seriously.

PS. it's generally accepted that a Flat White contains a tiny bit of foam on top of the steamed milk, much less than a Latte but it's still there.
MammothCoffee (guest)
2/2/2010 8:36:22 AM
Your cappuccino is incorrect, it should be 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk and 1/3 milk foam... your picture shows too much foam to milk.

Just saying... ;)
