Are you unable to remove a file from your NTFS file system partition of Windows operating system-based computer? Does your system show disk and file system structure corruption related errors in System Event Log of Windows? This behavior may render your valuable data inaccessible from the NTFS file system volume. It causes critical data loss and needs NTFS Data Recovery to fix the problem, if you do not have an updated backup in place.

In a practical situation, you may encounter the below error message when you attempt to delete a file from NTFS file system partitions:

Cannot delete <file name>: The file or directory is corrupt and unreadable.”

Furthermore, you may see any of the following entries in System Event Log of Microsoft Windows operating system:

  • Event ID: 41
    Source: Diskperf
Description: The file system structure on disk is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the device with label "Volume_name"

  • Event ID: 55
    Source: NTFS
Description: The file system structure on disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume "Drive_letter:"

When you run the ChkDsk utility against affected NTFS file system partitions, the tool may or may not fix the issue. However, after applying the ChkDsk you still can't delete files or access it.

Grounds of the issue:

This problem may take place if the MFT (Master File Table) of NTFS partition is damaged. The long and short file name pairs, which are stored in directory index record and file names, which are stored in associated FRS (File Record Segment) has case-sensitive characters that don't match.

NTFS file system supports POSIX (case-sensitive) file names, however ChkDsk doesn't check the file names in the case-sensitive mode.

In order to sort out this problem and perform NTFS Partition Recovery, go through the underwritten steps:

  • Backup entire volume, which contains corrupted files or is affected.

  • Exclude the damaged files from backup.

  • Format the NTFS partition.

  • Restore data from backup.

If you do not take backup before formatting the volume, NTFS File Recovery becomes need of hour.

Recovery is best possible through efficient and advanced third-party Data Recovery Software. They are powerful enough to carry out in-depth scan of entire hard drive and extract all lost NTFS partitions and stored data. The applications are totally safe and easy to use with read-only conduct and easy graphical user interface.

NTFS Data Recovery is a powerful utility that insures absolute recovery in all cases of data loss from NTFS file system partitions. The software recovers lost NTFS5 and NTFS volumes. It is designed to work with Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, 2003, XP, and 2000.
