It's the Dawning of the Age of Insanity

When I sat down to write today, I realized that I had a severe case of writer's block. Besides that, I had the song "Aquarius" from the musical Hair stuck in my head. And that's when it hit me: the age of insanity. Just replace the lyrics with "It's the dawning of the age of insanity" and there you have it, life in the US. We are living in a world where child molesters go free, and where some people don't eat a single meal. Yet, members of PETA find it necessary to protest one of the most affordable fast food restaurants.

They find it necessary to protest naked, when elementary school children are coming home from school on a busy road. Only one word comes to my mind when I think about this: insanity. The number of people receiving plastic surgery has hit an all time high. The Barbie doll is marketed to young girls as the "perfect" woman. These days, if you aren't a size two, blonde, tan female with large breasts, you are nothing to society. Anorexia and bulimia are everyday words for teens. Everyone's striving to be what is considered "perfect" in our society.

Little girls want to be Nicole or Paris, both of whom have issues with their image. Whatever happened to positive role models for young girls? Everything today is guided by popularity, wealth, and image. We are living in a society where there are jeans that cost more than my entire wardrobe, and there are cars worth more than my house. Celebrities go on television showing us the million dollar homes, car collections, wardrobes, and jewelry items that they have acquired.

Meanwhile there are still people starving in the streets, and children going hungry all over the country. It is crazy how people only think about themselves. The ozone is depleting and the country is at war, yet the Democrats only concern is to make President Bush look stupid. They don't give a solution to anything; they just argue everything that President Bush says. The war is for a good cause. The sooner we get our job done, the sooner our troops can come home.

This is a day in age where teenagers cut themselves or kill themselves because they don't "fit in." There are kids who bring guns and knives to school, or threaten to blow the school up because of the way other teens treat them. It is insane. Here is my advice to the people living in the United States: 1.) Girls: no one is perfect. Find a role model that is more than just a pretty face. You could be the next President of the United States, lawyer, doctor, or teacher.

All you have to do is put your mind to it. 2.) Boys: stop holding girls to such high standards. A girl does not have to be a size two, platinum blonde Barbie doll to be beautiful. It is the personality that matters the most. 3.) Parents: don't let your children grow up to be shallow, vain, and disrespectful. And finally, 4.) Everyone: think about others. You are not the only important person in the world. If you see someone who is hungry, feed them, donate to charity, do something.
