Geoinformatics is considered to be a niche domain of study. From being recognized as a change agent to being one of the most active fields, Geoinformatics has grown by leaps and bounds. Though there are not many colleges offering Geoinformatics as a specialization, students have an option to choose from leading institutions like SIG to choose from. SIG or Symbiosis Institute of Geoinformatics as it is popularly was amongst the first ones in the country to initiate the programs dealing exclusively with the Geoinformatics domain. What started out as an institution to offer programs like MSC in Geoinformatics, has evolved into one of the fines MSC colleges in the country that offers several types of programs for aspirants in the Geoinformatics domain. There are several unique initiatives that put SIG a notch above the other options. In fact, SIG ensures a balance of academics with industry so that the students get to learn better. A good example of this is the soon to happen Pune chapter of Geo Vision 2013 to be hosted at SIG.

The Symbiosis Pune admissions have always been a much awaited event and colleges like SIG have always seen a rush in registrations considering the niche domain that they cater to. At SIG, the difference lies in treating the geoinformatics programs differently. The regular dose of industry interactions, loads of research and live projects keep the students in tandem with the latest developments in the industry. As part of the prestigious Symbiosis Pune banner, SIG has undertaken pioneering initiatives in the Geoinformatics domain. Some of these include introducing customized certification courses to conducting full-fledged PHD programs; SIG has a huge list of accolades to support its achievements.

The institution is amongst the pioneering initiatives by the Symbiosis and caters to the hundreds of aspirants who desire to make it big in the Geoinformatics domain. Currently, SIG offers a plethora of opportunities through its multiple courses. For the full timers, SIG has an MSC in Geoinformatics and even the PHD options. Both are equally relevant for aspirant depending on their level of interest. In fact, SIG also has a series of certification programs dealing in different specializations of geospatial sciences and remote sensing. These are usually programs preferred by professionals.

Admissions to the different programs happen through the Symbiosis authority. While the admissions to the MSC program are through the SNAP test, the PHD programs and the certification courses admit students on a personal interview basis. But in every program, the SIG authorities ensure that only those with genuine interest are permitted into the programs. The certification courses are even customized according to the industry requirements.
