IT WAS goodbye sleepy village, and Hello! married life, as a wedding for Faversham's most famous family drew a media circus at the weekend.

Peaches Geldof wed rocker fiance Thomas Cohen in Davington church on Saturday, the same place her late mother, Paula Yates, and Sir Bob had their vows blessed 26 years ago. It was also where Paula's funeral was held.

The 23-year-old bride, who had sisters Pixie, Fifi and Tiger as bridesmaids, told Hello! magazine: "Davington is where I grew up and it's where my parents married so there is a lot of sentimentality attached to it. It's so beautiful and quaint, it's perfect for the kind of quirky, chilled-out country wedding Tom and I wanted.

"When I was little I would force my sister Pixie to walk around the house and grounds dressed as my bridegroom, while I walked ahead of her, Miss Havisham-style in a big white puffy ball gown my mother bought for me. I'm so excited to have replayed the scene for real."

But aside from designer dresses, and paparazzi lining the nearby streets the wedding was described as a traditional family affair.

Former Reverend at Davington church, Alison Duguid, led the ceremony, which included Hebrew prayers to reflect the bridegroom's Jewish heritage.

One wedding guest from Faversham said: "Despite the magazine's photographers being there it was very much a normal wedding with the usual mix of family, friends and neighbours. It was very traditional, with the church decorated with Kentish hops and guests singing hymns like Jerusalem.

"Then afterwards Bob invited neighbours round for a drink. It all reflected on the fact that the family have lived here for nearly 20 years and are a real part of the community. You couldn't ask for a nicer day."

Faversham folk invited to the ceremony included Bob's gardener Ken Judges, friend and manager of the Faversham Enterprise Partnership, Laurence Young, and neighbour Jackie Hitchcock.

They rubbed shoulders with celebrity guests, including Jools Holland although Peaches' godfather Bono was absent from proceedings. The couple's five-month-old son Astala was a pageboy.
