HISTORY OF BRITISH AIRWAYS
British Airways was formed in year 1974, after union of British European Airways Corporation and British Overseas Airways Corporation under the newly formed British Airways Board. It received its private status in year 1987, by the merger of two regional airlines Northeast Airlines and Cambrian Airways, along with British European Airways and British Overseas Airways.
In the year 1992, British Airways ran into an unfriendly terms with Virgin Atlantic, because of which it had to pay huge sums to it as fine. This led to the change of the management several times and finally in September 1998, British Airways (BA) along with American Airlines (AA), Qantas, Cathay Pacific Airways and the non existent Canadian Airlines, decided to form the one world airline group so as to emerge as one of the best and largest airline alliances in the world!
In year 2008, British Airways started its new subsidiary named as OpenSkies which took advantage of the liberalisation of transatlantic traffic rights between the United States and Europe. OpenSkies flies non-stop from Paris to Washington D.C and New York City.
