Some believe it is mostly larger companies with deep pockets that are transitioning to new, modern technologies in droves. However, one can imagine these enterprises often have set methods of conducting their operations, and have many more hoops to jump through before major transitions can be made.
By contrast, small businesses and startups are often more willing to take risks. There are less levels of bureaucracy, and smaller companies are often willing to make forward-thinking investments in order to generate business model innovation that positions them to keep step with larger competitors.
That being said, it’s not too surprising that a recent IT security study found small businesses to be enthusiastically adopting mobile, virtualization and cloud infrastructures. After upwards of 2,000 companies with between five and 250 staff members were surveyed, it was found that more than a third had enabled employees to do their jobs using mobile devices while 34 percent had transitioned to virtualized servers.
What is arguably even more interesting is that these respondents reported that one of the primary drivers behind these investments was disaster recovery.
"Today's SMBs are in a unique position to embrace new technologies that not only provide a competitive edge, but also allow them to improve their ability to recover from a disaster while protecting the information that their businesses depend on," said Steve Cullen of the research team.
Corroborating this idea, just under 75 percent of respondents mentioned that disaster recovery initiatives were tighter with virtualization while a slightly smaller percentage (roughly 40 percent) stated the same about public and private clouds.
Business officials in Illinois looking to optimize their ability to recover from a disaster would be wise to partner with a Chicago IT services partner that can provide virtualization, mobile and cloud computing solutions.
