3 tips to Conquering Your Goals

If you are in any type of business you know how important it is to set goals. Conquering them can be difficult, especially if you don’t know anything about setting goals, let alone how to execute them.

Tip #1: Design a plan of attack

I like to think of goal as a Rubik’s cube. Sometimes you just need to step back and think about how to solve it, rather than turning it every which way. Designing a plan of a attack is the key to accomplishing any goal. Think about what you must accomplish before you reach your ultimate goal. For example, let’s say you’re a commercial real estate owner and your long term goal is to increase traffic to your new shopping center by 50% in the year 2012. You may start out by setting a monthly goal that will ultimately help you get one step closer to achieving that ultimate goal. Let’s say you decide to increase advertising. You figure that if you want to increase traffic to your shopping center you need to start by increasing advertising. So your goal for that month might be to hire an advertising agency to help promote your shopping center.

Tip #2: Setting plateau’s of success

Goals should be challenging, That why it’s important to set what I like to call, “plateau’s of success” or “mini-goals”. When you are setting your goals, just try to keep in mind what your long term goals are and work your mini-goals around that. setting your goals every month will help you stay motivated and remind you of what your long term goals are. Build a list of mini-goals that lead you to your ultimate goal. You may find that you have to set fifty mini-goals before you reach your ultimate goal. Every time, you complete one of your mini-goals you should cross it off your list. Crossing a goal off your list will give you more confidence and motivation to achieve that ultimate goal.

Tip #3: Stay Positive.

Sometimes the most important aspect of achieving your goals is staying positive. If for some reason you fail to complete a task or you come up just short of your monthly goal, you need to be able to stay positive and still believe that you are capable of conquering what you set out to do. Overcoming obstacles is just one aspect of achieving your goals. One way of staying positive is visualizing yourself achieving your final goal. It helps to close your eyes for a few minutes and think about how good it will feel to accomplish your ultimate goal. Imagine yourself conquering your goal after overcoming difficult obstacles and try to think about what it would feel like once you accomplish this feat.

Accomplishing your goals can be easy. Breaking up your goals into multiple parts can be one of the best ways of conquering them. It’s also important to keep in mind that obstacles will arise and it’s up to you to handle them to the best of your ability.
